C or better prerequisite rule to take effect for the Class of 2019

September 6, 2016

Dear Students (ME Class of 2019),

As a result of discussions of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty concerning the undergraduate curriculum and student performance, the Mechanical Engineering Department will be instituting a new requirement on prerequisites to core curriculum classes for the Class of 2019 (all sophomores). This requirement does not affect the Classes of 2017 and 2018 (juniors and seniors).

The ME department will require that a student (in course 2, 2A or 2OE) must earn a grade of C or better in all prerequisites for an undergraduate core curriculum course before he or she can take that core curriculum course.

For the Class of 2019 (all sophomores): Students that earn a grade of D (or F) in a class that is a pre-requisite for a core subject  will need to retake that class to take the core subject for which it is a pre-requisite.

Please note that the grade of D will still be considered passing in a degree audit, so long as the class is not a prerequisite for a more advanced required core subject.
